Aha, the days of Sysop remote access.  Originally I was given this
access because Vamp (the Sysop) was too lazy to give me more time online
so that I could play The Pit.  She just jumped me to 255/255 access so
that I had unlimited time.

I had fun looking around the system, user accounts (you wouldn't believe
how funny some people's passwords are, or how silly), creating new
boards out of nowhere, and generally running amuck in a polite manner.

I remember the day that Lankmar decided to play a joke on Vamp (by this
time known online as Seraphine) in the system log.  Whenever you did a
'dosshell' from remote access, it kept a log of every keystroke you hit.
It didn't let you do a whole lot though.  So Lankmar typed in (from a
dos-shell prompt) "format c: hahahahaha" and hit return.  Oops.  There
are a lot of useful things that the dos-shell remote access won't let
you do, and there's one BIG bad thing that it WILL let you do.  Like
format the C: drive.

I've met many people and long time friends from BBSing.  BBSing's even
gotten me laid.  (And ANYTHING that gets you laid when you're 16 is a
good, good thing.)  I remember the days of bowling for getting together,
the very random parties, and later, organized events even.  I met a
whole lot of people from the boards at Rocky Horror, where I was every
weekend in fishnets, playing a character in the movie.  That's where I
met a long-time friend, Axe-Handle.  I stood up in his wedding two weeks
ago.

BBSing was a wonderful thing in my life.  I can't say that I miss it
greatly, but it was one of the things the Internet was before it was the
internet.  I still see a lot of the old BBS people in my every day life,
as old friends.  But I still miss The Pit. <g>
